Nitrous oxide treatment
Nitrous oxide is also called laughing gas in English and that is indeed what it does – when inhlaed, anxiety from the treatment will decrease considerably. Laughing gas reduces stress, fear and pain perception. During the inhalation, the person feels relaxed and carefree. Laughing gas is perfect for managing stress of older children, however, it cannot deal with truly deep panic or stress. Likewise, it is not suitable for very young children who are unable to breathe through their nose instead of their mouth for the entire duration of the treatment.
Why is a nitrous oxide treatment a good choice?
- The patient is concsious throughout the entire procedure.
- The effects arrive quickly and wear off just as fast.
- No food restrictions or additional anaesthetic procedures are necessary.
- The gas is inhaled continously through a nasal mask and its concentration can be adjusted smoothly according to the patient's needs.
