Dental Hygiene for Children
22. 4. 2024
Dental hygiene represents an integral part of our dental treatment services. After all, only a clean tooth can be a healthy tooth as well!
After we have fixed all the teeth of your child, we strongly recommend it to regularly see the dental hygienist at our clinic.
Why?
Dental treatment is just the beginning of a your journey to healthy teeth free from cavities. It does not make sense for us to just fix your teeth and then send you off “into the wide world” without improving your dental hygiene and dietary habits. After all, those old habits are what brought you to us in the first place, causing cavities and problems in your mouth.
We want to teach you how to care for your teeth perfectly to prevent further potential cavities and issues. Because only perfectly clean teeth can avoid decay! We aim to improve your child’s cooperation in the dental office, which is why we offer practice visits with our experienced hygienists to assist you in caring for those pearly whites.
Specifically, after general anaesthesia, we recommend at least four visits within the first year, usually spaced at three weeks, one month, three months, and six months post-treatment. The purpose of these visits is not only to clean your child’s teeth, but also to provide guidance and education for parents on proper home care for their little ones' teeth. An equally important role is played by the acclimatization aspect, where your child gets familiar with the dental office environment and our work in their mouth without any pressure.
Now for a frequently asked question: Is a visit to the dental hygienist suitable and necessary even if the child is completely uncooperative? Absolutely! One cannot expect a completely uncooperative patient to magically transform into a cooperative one in a single visit. However, with repeated visits, gentle encouragement, and gradual exposure, some improvement can be achieved over time. Plus, parents will always receive valuable information from our hygienists about proper cleaning techniques, answers to all their questions, and a chance to verify and organize the information they've found online about dental hygiene. Most importantly, they can practice everything individually. This part will always succeed, even without the child's cooperation.
Let us help you make this journey meaningful and book your dental hygiene appointment today.
